How can rear tooth or front tooth root canal treatment help?

Posted on: 6th February 2018

Whether it’s rear tooth or front tooth root canal treatment, it is often described by many as a painful treatment. However, that is no longer the case. Latest technological advancements and improvement in pain prevention techniques mean now that root canal treatment can be performed with minimal discomfort ensuring that any pain is dealt with accordingly.

The tooth is made up of two parts, the crown which is visible and the root, which extends into the bone of the jaw and anchors the tooth in to position. The root canal system contains what is called the ‘dental pulp’, this is a soft tissue at the centre of the tooth.

Root canal treatment is needed when an X-ray shows that the dental pulp has been damaged by a bacterial infection. The dental pulp will begin to die should it be infected by any bacteria, and will continue to multiply and spread. This can lead to some dental discomfort including pain when eating and drinking hot and cold foods and drink, pain when biting and chewing, or even a loose tooth. However, the pain will begin to disappear, leading many to think that the problem has resolved. This is not the case.

When pain begins to ease, it could mean that the infection has spread through to the root canal system. Further pain symptoms will then occur such as, the returning of sensitivity when biting and chewing, swelling of the gum, facial swelling, puss oozing from the affected tooth, or even discolouration of a tooth.

Root canal treatment is performed by removing the bacteria, it is deemed a better option than removing teeth. After the bacteria has been removed, the root canal will be filled and the tooth sealed with a filling or crown. In most cases, the inflamed tissue near the tooth will heal naturally.
